[This discussion surrounds a job posting on a general discussion news
group at my alma mater (I know, I know, wrong newsgroup, should've been
msu.jobs). The poster, DPK, specifically requested that applicants NOT
submit MS-Word documents for an open UNIX developer position... - Ed.]

I won't add my personal comments on Microsoft, but I'm sure quite a few
could tell you exactly how I feel :) I would rather call it "pro open
    source and free software".

I do see it as an effective tool to determine who can follow directions
and apply themselves. Uses MS Word and saves to a text file? Good.
Configures a Postscript printer driver and prints the MS Word document
to a Postscript file? Nice, even better. Takes the Postscript file and
converts it to a PDF? Now you are catching on. The resume is
generated from a LaTeX document (which is quite noticable) ?
Priceless... A person after my own heart.

Also, persons browsing our website (a good thing to do when applying for
any position) will notice a web-based Postscript to PDF conversion tool
developed using free software. All you need is a web browser instead of
expensive, proprietary software to create PDFs.
